The changes that occur in a woman’s body during pregnancy put tremendous stress on many systems, particularly the muscular system and the joints of the lower back and pelvis.
Through gentle chiropractic care, we’re able to keep the muscles in balance and prevent painful spasms. This is accomplished by relieving the inevitable compression on the joints and the unavoidable stretching of the ligaments.
How Else Can Chiropractic Benefit Both Mom and Baby?
Chiropractic is a very safe and gentle approach to optimizing not only pregnancy, but the birth process itself. Here’s how it can help:
- The pregnancy itself is much more comfortable. Women report much less back pain and sciatica, with increased energy levels.
- Breech delivery is much less common with women who are under chiropractic care.
- Delivery itself tends to be faster, reducing trauma for both mother and child.
How Often Should I Be Adjusted If I’m Pregnant?
The rule of thumb that I’ve been using successfully for many years is:
- Months 4 and 5: An adjustment once a month
- Months 6 and 7: An adjustment twice a month
- Months 8 and 9: An adjustment once a week
Here’s a favorite memory that I’d like to share: One of my female patients who’d received regular chiropractic care during her pregnancy gave birth to her first child. I stopped in at the hospital that evening, and her first words to me were, “You made the delivery so fast; they didn’t even have time to give me any drugs!”
I love stories like that, and it can be your story as well. Make the commitment to optimize this precious time in your life through gentle chiropractic care! Contact Capps Chiropractic Clinic to learn more.
